Work from Drawing 1 (Interior + 3 Characters)

An assignment I had in Semester 1. Was going for a futuristic/cyberpunk interior design mix match with some "old" furniture and technology.

Not sure how long this one took, but it was pretty fun to do :0

Sengoku Basara Figures by Revoltech

Just got these in the mail. I nabbed these through Amiami.co.jp for $5 a pop. That's a hugh mark down from $27!

Meet Chosokabe Motochika and Mori Motonari from Sengoku Basara, a hack and slash game by Capcom on the PS3 and Wii (think Samurai Warriors by Koei, but with a little more flare). Both figures are made by Revoltech and were imported from Japan.

The figures look great on pose. Each have vibrant colours to match their silly, angsty attitudes and interesting choices for weapons. My only gripe is that for Revoltech figures, where they decided to place the ball joints are odd (Motochika's neck is connected to his scarf thingy and his waist is connected to the gilt, not the waist). Poseability is a hit or miss. While you can arrange them in some pretty cool poses, the placement of the joints don't really help out when playing with them. Limbs and clothing parts were flying off as I was fiddling around with the figures.

Overall though, they were easily worth the $5, but I would have felt a little burnt if I paid full prices for them.

WIP Sprites

Some sprite work for my Flash project.

Making very fast progress (started on the 17th). Still a bit of ways to go, but it's been fun along the way :)

My last Design (3) work

I just found this piece a few minutes ago. It was laid hidden in a bunch of old files located in my external hd. It was for Design 3, a book cover about your fictional "biography".

I wish I could've made my brother proud, but in the end Graphic Design was too much for me. Gaming seems like a better choice. I feel much more passionate about it.

Some marker renders from Sept - Dec 2010

These were all for fun. It was fun. Really! :)

Renders are of designs for Kelvena and Beta.

All were done with graphite and Copic markers.

Conan and Valaria 99% done

It's 4:37am and I'm about to call it a night. This dude is pretty much done and is ready to be submitted.

And yes I realize grayscale Conan looks like Hakan's thinner, more slavic brother.

Dragon Quest 6 is out for the DS!

And I don't have it yet :(

There are too many games out right now. It's hard enough to make time for anything else lol.
Well since I can't show off my (lack of) DQ6 copy, here are some of my prize possessions.

My copies of DQ1 - DQ4!
Boxed and manual included, all for the Famicom.

I picked these up from an eBay seller getting rid of his Famicom collection. Luckily they were extremely affordable!

Cart and manual are gorgeously designed (something missing in the current gen of gaming packages). Booklet is still in pristine condition. Cute illustrations included :)

I'm 90% sure these games are abundant in Japan. Perhaps one day I can make a business trip (HAHA) down there and nab a crap load of gaming goodies... Until then, the closest thing I have to that is either replaying some Yakuza 3 or rewatching Lost in Translation again and again... u_u

Past work...

Here are some of my work done from my Graphic Design days to Game Dev semester 1.

My last Graphic Design project before I dropped out.

2D Digi project.

Car modelling for 3D Modelling and Animation 1.

Some Gaia commissions.

Unused assets.

MVC3 is here!... So why do I feel so bad?

Even after my skepticism, after Justin Wong's and Sanford's pooping on it, after even trying it out at EB Games and experienced the suckiness first hand, I decided to keep my preorder of MVC3 and now it's here...

This is the SE version, which has a stock board sleeve. The MVC3 roster can be seen slightly thanks to the light embossing.

Inside you'll find the Steelbook that holds the game and manual. Packaged with the whole thing is a comic book that is SMH worthy. Odd note: the DLC codes for Jill and Shuma are printed behind the comic...

So what's the game like?..
I played and goofed around in the training area and complete a few trials... Lets just say if you were expecting XvSF, MvSF, MvC, or MvC2, forget it, man. The game is a total new build, one with 3 attack buttons (ONLY) and a designated launch key.

I'm still scratching my head over this one... It's been a game everyone has been waiting for for almost a decade, but I'm really confused at the changes. Maybe it's too early to judge, but from my initial playthrough, it wouldn't score too high in my books.

I'll follow up with a more concrete opinion after I really sink my teeth into it.

Luxo Lamp Jump

Here's my Luxo Lamp Jump attempt. Submitted last week. Surprisingly fun to do. :}

Arrived goodies from Japan

Just got a batch of Super Famicom games in the mail:
- Super Smash TV
- Super R-Type
- Power Athlete
- Sailor Moon R
- Sailor Moon Jougai
- The Great Battle 2
- Super Street Fighter 2

Most of these games were about $1 - $4 (excluding shipping). Great prices for some good and not so good titles.
Aside from the Sailor Moon titles, all the others were games I either owned or rented when I was younger.

FYI: Power Athlete sucks. I remembered it being better though xD Sometimes your memory plays tricks on you...

Conan Character Designs WIP

So these are my designs of Conan and Valaria for Drawing ii. There are some issues that are bugging me (but can't go back now that it's inked, lol) like Conan looking like a native american on some angles and Valaria looking too young to be sultry. I'm just sorta glad that it's going a lot faster than expected.

I'm always paranoid when it comes to putting ink on canvas, since there's no UNDO in real life so I always test out colouring schemes on paper before it goes on the real thing. Here are some musculature colouring tests.

Shout outs to Skeletor and Teela for being the most still and patient models on the planet! They were my references for some musculature and colour studies.

I'll have the final done by next week. Stay tuned :)

Hey, first post :)

Hi, my name is Hien and this is my blog about myself and my work.

A little bit about myself; I'm currently in Game Development at George Brown College. Originally I was enrolled in the Graphic Design program in the same campus, but soon realized it wasn't for me.

My favourite game of all time is God Hand for the PS2. My favourite animated movie is Akira. I don't have a favourite band for music, but I do like a lot of gaming soundtracks (Super Castlevania IV, Legend of the Mystical Ninjas, Kenseiden, Earthbound).

I'm a giant geek for the Street Fighter series, but not that good playing it. I'm one of those "I love the game but the game doesn't love me back" guys.

I also have a love/hate relationship with Capcom. Shinji Mikami is my hero and Goichi Suda is my future for gaming.

Anyways, I'm rambling now. Hope you come back and check out some of my amateur stuff at work here at the Pizzeria.
